Conformation
Little Dood has a good proportional body from front to back in combination with a straight back. His head is short and broad (much like his sire, Seeker). His current leg length gives confidence his stand/stature will match closely to his dam and sire. Little Dood appears to have taken some of the best qualities from his dam and sire (shown below). Read more on the Dexter Breed guidelines.

Temperament
Little Dood is still a little timid and shy. His dam and sire are both docile. His mother is very approachable and likes to be scratched. I think some dedicated 1-on-1 time with Little Dood will get him over the hump and earn his trust. Little Dood’s dam is a short Dexter, so if you are looking for a shorter/smaller bull for breeding Little Dood is your bull. For us, we prefer smaller-framed Dexters, but unfortunately we can’t keep two bulls so Little Dood will need a new home. With Little Dood’s genetics and stature, he would make the perfect herd bull for any ranch or homestead. Little Dood is a great candidate for a herd bull to produced polled, red, A2A2 offspring.

Our Rotational Program

We purchased our Dexters specifically for their size, demeanor, and efficiency on grass. We practice frequent rotational grazing which keeps our herd on clean fresh grass at all times, so we have no need for dewormers or vaccines. In this program, our Dexters helping us improve our pasture soils by intense grazing activity followed by long periods of rest. We do not use any chemicals (fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, etc…) in our pastures whatsoever. Our Dexter herd stomps the weeds down and provides our pasture with some of the best fertilizer you can find.

Our Dexters are 100% pasture grass fed. In the winter months we supplement with organic alfalfa pellets as needed. Our Dexters have remained very healthy and strong as part of this program.

Demeanor of our herd

All of our Dexters are very sweet and gentle, they love to be scratched, and will eat out of your hand. We have even tried to milk our cows a little without a halter and they stood still for us without a fuss. We spend time with our herd and work with new timid ones to help build their trust so all of our Dexters are docile, approachable, and love attention.
